Learning to drive in a straight line

During the first >200 km-drive I made this year I had some trouble keeping the car going in a straight line when the road was not perfect. And to be honest when would that ever be? I knew I had to change something, but what would it be? Even though I had the wheels aligned by a professional after I build the drive train, I thought it would be a good thing to start there. A new alignment might just do the trick.

I don't know how you are doing this, but I always have a lot of trouble in finding the right people for the job. This has led me to try and do everything myself. Cause if I stuff it up.. at least I did it myself. And in this case I had to go to two garages specialized in  wheel alignment. One had the specs but not the equipment for a vintage car. The other one had the equipment, but not the specs. Good thing K. made a photo of the specs at the first shop, so the second one was able to enter some data in the machine.

Something was off. The mechanic immediately noticed and he was a bit afraid to ask, but when he did it made sense. Could I have switched the left and right spindles, during the build? I was sad to admit but it seemed like I did.

Back to the bomb-garage it was. No kidding, switching those spindles made huge difference right away. A final actual wheel alignment by the mechanic and we are ready for the road again. But now for real!
