Steering Gearbox Done

This one took some time. Mainly due to a not orangebomb related hospitalization of a couple of weeks and the amount of time it took to be back on our feet again.

The steering was, as can be expected of a 71 year old, not as smooth as we wanted. The bomb not react as soon as you steered, in fact it took quite a while for it to react at all. First we dismantled the steering gearbox to see what we were working with. And it all looked very pretty, especially since we had no idea how it was supposed to look. But we did figure that the Pittman arm was kind of worn and we looked for a replacer. (of course this could only be found in the US, so an other shipment arrived).

What is the next step? Luckily we found a very helpful series of YouTube tutorials that gave us a step by step instruction. If you ever need help in this watch the channel of Joe Calcagno. See the first video below. We followed most steps. This is an instruction for a steering gear restoration of a corvette 1953-1962, but most helpful and with the car manual at hand the completed steering gear box has been restored. Now when we steer left, we have a car that responses right away. Oh, the joy of driving.
